Abstract

Canine Knee Joint Fracture (CKJF) is a serious health condition in dogs, demanding surgical procedures for best rehabilitation. With regard to dogs having CKJF surgery, this study aims to examine the impact of surgical techniques and other risk variables on severe outcomes following surgery. We employ two surgical procedures to compare surgical (TPLO) tibial plateau leveling osteotomy, tibial tuberosity advancement (TTA) and other risk factors with the incidence of potentially serious surgical complications in dogs receiving CKJF. The 46 dogs in the research had their stifles receiving surgical care at veterinary facilities for CKJF. When conducting a thorough assessment of the electronic medical data, interacting with pet owners and recommending vets for more details. Major, catastrophic and minor complications were classified as serious. The data found that serious post-operative problems occurred in 28% of TPLO stifles and 18% of TTA stifles. Surgical implant problems and surgical site infections were the most common significant post-operative concerns. The findings showed that the surgical approach impacted the probability of serious complications, with TPLO posing a lower risk than TTA. This result persisted even when age and body weight were taken into account, both of them have been shown to be significant risk variables. Even though TPLO operations had a greater prevalence of severe problems, the adjusted hazard was lower than that associated with TTA, emphasizing the significance of comparing the postoperative outcomes following CKJF surgery requires considering possible effect modifiers.
